Each of these light pieces has been individually hand-carved, demonstrating a fine attention to detail and exceptional craftsmanship. Often incorporating paper, wood, and organic methods to shape the pieces, Morimoto’s lamps each differ subtly, maintaining a personality of their own. They allow chance and nature to a play a role in their final form. Many of the lamps demonstrate the influence of George Nakashima, one of the leading innovators in 20th century furniture design, as well as a personal friend and colleague, on Morimoto’s works.
